In 2016, people queued from early morning at a National Database and Registration Authority office in Lyari, Karachi, on a Friday reserved for women. Local reporting said that only 60 tokens were issued each day and that some applicants arrived to queue from about 7 a.m.

This was not a scene of simultaneous male and female lines at separate counters. The gender-specific order was created by a women-only service day. Securing one of the limited tokens determined whether an applicant could advance her identity-document case that day, so the inherited candidate is corrected to the documented public-service queue.
