U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Border Wait Times system divides vehicle traffic at the Mexican border into General, Ready Lane and SENTRI categories, while pedestrians may use General or Ready lanes. For each port it reports operating hours, open lanes and current delay separately. Where infrastructure permits, the processing goal is fifteen minutes for SENTRI and half the general-lane wait for Ready Lane users.
There is no single border queue. Documents and prior enrollment determine which wait a traveler enters. Arrival order is split into parallel eligibility categories, and even the public measurement of delay follows those categories.
