During Mauritius's National Assembly election on 7 November 2019, the African Union observation mission visited 207 polling stations. Voter queues were observed in 53 percent of the voting rooms, while procedures were generally described as calm and orderly. This was not an impression from one location but a result recorded across many sites under a common observation framework.
What distinguishes these queues is that they were quantified as an election-management indicator rather than told as a story about exceptional length. Waiting was visible evidence of participation, but it also became field data for assessing order, ballot secrecy and the flow of the vote.
