In August 2022, long queues formed at LPG filling stations in parts of Accra, Ghana. The Ghana News Agency visited stations around Teshie and recorded sites that had closed their gates with “No Gas” signs, as well as customers who waited their turn only to be told that supplies had run out. Some drivers whose vehicles used LPG parked near stations in the hope that a delivery would arrive.
What distinguished these queues was that demand was concentrated not only by confirmed shortages but by the rumour that supply was disappearing. A strike by petroleum tanker drivers formed part of the background. As customers carried cylinders or drove from one station to another, waiting converged on the outlets thought still to have fuel, reinforcing the public sense of scarcity.
The article was re-edited against that direct evidence without adding unverified crowd sizes or waiting times.
