In Honiara, Solomon Islands, the wait for commuter buses becomes a daily line for workers and students. A March 2025 local report follows a mother and son who arrived at White River at 6:30 a.m. and boarded only about two hours later. The same mother then waited nearly another thirty minutes at Central Market for her next bus. Vehicles can pass already full, leaving people to wait for hours or walk. The report links the shortage partly to enforcement against unlicensed operators and also describes drivers cutting long routes into shorter segments in order to collect another fare. This queue is not merely an effect of traffic. Fleet availability, regulation, and route-splitting turn the beginning of a school or work day into an uncertain contest for a place on the next vehicle.
