Every 17 January, Andorra la Vella distributes the one-pot stew escudella in Plaça Guillemó for Saint Anthony's Day. A municipal magazine records that 4,500 portions were served at the 49th edition in 2018 and that eager residents formed queues in the streets leading into the square well before distribution began. People arrived carrying either food containers or commemorative ceramic bowls, then received escudella with red wine and a slice of cake. The cooking team had managed ten outdoor fires from early morning. The municipality traces the modern custom to shopkeepers in the early 1970s extending a tradition of feeding the parish's poor to neighbours across the town. What distinguishes this line is that people do not merely wait for a meal to finish cooking: the vessel they carry becomes the unit of distribution, while city streets temporarily become a communal dining system.
