Indian Railways provides dedicated reservation counters for women, senior citizens, people with disabilities and other specified groups where demand justifies them. An official Ministry of Railways document also says that at non-computerized offices without a separate counter, women should not be compelled to join the general queue and should be attended separately at the same counter.

Passengers may be taking the same trains, yet their route to a ticket is not always one line. Separating turns is intended to make a crowded public service safer and more accessible. It creates distinct waiting paths while making room for people who might otherwise struggle to reach the counter.
